351W year variations?

I was wondering what the variations are within the different 351W block years.
I have a 1969 351W in my garage that I am looking into turning into a 393.

Anything major?

Thanks,
Matt

The only difference is that the 69-70 blocks are a 9.5" deck and the block thereafter have a slightly higher deck. I have read that the newer blocks are more desirable for the 393 because the higher deck height allows for the block to be decked (machined true). If your deck is true now, then you might be able to use it but I'd call your parts supplier to confirm this. Keep your stock heads, if you still have them, they have a 60cc combustion chamber whereas the newer heads have a 64cc chamber. I don't know if you plan to use them or not, but with some work and a larger set of valves (1.94" intake, 1.60" exhaust) they will flow almost the same as a set of Edlebrock Performer aluminum heads.

Here's a site that compares them and the second site shows/tells how:

I plan to build a 393 out of my '89 block in the near future as well.

Good Luck

RCC
