Well, ever since I cleaned my air filter on sunday, it sounded weird and I lost about 2-3 psi top end. Today when I got home I took of the intake pipe, and the wheel lookes like Freddy Kruger tried to stop it by hand. I don't know what the hell happened, but my guess is somethig small some how got inside the filter in the process of me cleaning it (I better not clean my guns right now at this rate).
So, as much as I want a van turbo, the wife is throwing a ****fit with me even saying a new wheel cost about $60. "That thing is a money pit blah blah blah".....
What and where can I get the right wheel to fit the early 99 turbo? Is it just a wicked wheel?
I grabbed it (with gloves on cause it's freakin hot) and did the best I can to check for radial and in and out play, and it felt good. I checked out dieselsite.com, are they the most reasonably priced?
Also, I'm assuming the intercooler caught all the pieces, as my truck is still running..... do I need to take the intercooler tube off and try to vacuum it out?
nope the ic caught all the harmful stuff, or 99% of it. sorry to hear about your luck. If your wife was a little more understanding it'd be a great time for a Dominator 66 turbo, that teeny little stocker isn't going to last long atop those 175's
OK- let me edit my last post- I just grabbed the shaft as it's cool enough to know, and yep, it's got some play to it.
Where do I go from here now?? Any recommendations please, so I can order parts tonight. The bitch is that I have to drive to work for the rest of the week. Is that stupid or is it ok if I keep the DP in #1 and keep my foot out of it? Or should I express mail the parts, and take a day of leave to fix it?
Chris I here ya man- I would be happy with a van turbo (I'm getting part built up to do a swap) but the D66 would be cherry- And what do you mean the stock turbo won't last long? Is there too much pressure on it? And although I do keep the credit card, she'd find out, and that would definitely be the end of our marriage, 'cause ain't no way in hell I'm giving up my truck!
Dan, i got my stock wheel if you need it to get by, i have no use for it. It,s in great shape, it,s yours if you need it. The wife has been getting on me also because on top of the tires, windshield, i want gauges. PM me if you want it.
Thanks for the offer Mike, but unfortunately I got the rd-headed step child of the Powerstrokes hehe.
The housing looks good as far as I can see, it just looks like it ate something. I really wish I new the hell what though- I'm always pretty carefull about FOD injestion.
So now I'm just looking for suggetions for a decent priced rebuild kit and WW.
Man this would be SOOOOO much easier if my wife was a little more understanding "you could have got a brand new F-150 for what you put in this money pit" For $23k, maybe- but it wouldn't be a 7.3!!!!!!
I meant Tenn Mike, not Big Poppa Mike- I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but seeing as how it'll probably be some time before I get a van turbo like I want, I was wondering if someone with more knowledge than me might chime in and let me know how well my truck would run with a stock wheel and the injectors I have- never having had to deal with surge before, is it something negligable or is it a PITA??
I have a brand new rebuild kit setting on the shelf that I am hopefully never going to use now, if you're comfortable building it yourself PM me and I'll send it to you. Now you just need a compressor wheel.
Uh oh- with all the great guys here, I may just have to show, again for the ump-teenth time, the wife how awesome this site is, and why she shouldn't complain when I spend all night on it LOL
