Hey guys, I bought new brake calipers and although I know how to put them on - they came with two packets of silicone lubricant in the box. Does anybody know where I am supposed to put this lubricant?
read on the napa auto part web site that the high temperature lubricant is for any moving metal parts ie: the retainer key and where the caliper meets the wheel assembly - (of course not anywhere neart the brake pads or rotor) - I believe this is for future removal if you want to replace new brake pads etc.
just thought I would share.
Yeah, like Mike said it goes on the metal to metal parts, use a small wire brush to clean off any rust to the mounting braket and put some anti-sieze on any bolt threads.
That silicon grease is most assuredly NOT for the back of the pads. As Bill said the little anti rattle clips that fit onto the ends of the pads are supposed to do that BUT if you really wanted to you can buy anti squeek stuff but personally I found that it's not needed and usually just costs money and makes a mess.
As others said that silicon grease is for the sliders and where the caliper sets in the spindle.
