I have a 73 F100 2wd and have found a set of wheels that are 5*5.5 bolt and are 15" x 8.5: with back spacing of 3.75". Will these work on the truck or stick out to far? This is a Home Depot/Lowes/dump/crap hauler so it isn't a show truck. But i do want it to look ok. What size tire would you run on the above wheel?Mike
you should be ok with those wheels, being that they are only 8.5 wide. go for a 29 or 30 inch tall tire. Looks good even on 2wd trucks, and 31s are a hair too big, at least on my 76 2wd they were.
Wheels should be fine but a little wide, stock was aroound 6 inches +/-. they came with 235/75/15's but that tire would be to narrow for 8.5's. I run 8.5's and use a 275/60/15 and they look great. JMO
I also have found a new set that are 7" wide. Would these be a better fit? Or should I go with the used 8.5"? If i go with the 7", what tire size would be the best?
With a 8.5" rim I'd put a little wider tire on it to fill the wheel well out, like a 31x10.5, the same tire would fit on the 7" rim but would be a little bit taller. Either rim will work.
Just my opinion, but on a 2wd, I like the stance of 8.5" with the 275/60-15 rubber - and you'll be very near the stock diameter (within 7/8") so speedo will be close and power will feel the same. 255/70-15 would also work well on the 8.5" and give you a little more diam (~29"). I guess it all depends on the look you want - street or off-road. If off-road, go with the 10.50/31 or 9.50/30.
