header prep questions?

I am getting ready to install flow tech long tubes on my 95 5.0 extended cab 4 wheel drive. I have heard the paint on these headers aren't that good,so I would like to strip them and repaint them. what is the best way to do this? I have no access to a sand blaster or any such equipment like that. I am not going for looks when I repaint them,i just don't want them to rust,I am thinking about just using flat black grill bbq grill paint. will this work? what about header bolts and header gaskets? Are the ones that came with the headers good,or should I get others and which ones? thanks!!

grill paint won't last any longer than whats on there.. VHT makes a ceramic paint that works marginally well, but is not great either.

This is the best I have found short of getting them coated/plated:

Eastwood Co. - Techline Black Ceramic exhaust coating

BChance is correct. Best bet is to get them coated or plated. Better off spending the increase up front and buy them coated. If you already have them try the yellow pages for a coating company in your area....

the ceramic coat will rust eventually too, its main purpose is for heat

im with Bchance, ive done the vht header paint and was not happy after i had sand blasted them clean

best bet for the good looks and long lasting is stainless, but pricey

I have the flowtechs. I stripped and repainted still didnt last. Best bet is to wrap them so you dont see them rust. Stainless is the only way to go if you dont want rust. No coating lasts, even good ones.
