Whenever I took my van up to higher altitudes, it would shift rather harshly out of 1st gear when I'm driving slowly, like in a parking light. It's like driving around with the vacuum modulator disconnected. But it's not like WW-III, as 86pile describes. I can't help but think that something else has gone wrong.
It's fixed. For now. No leaks that I see, the clunking noise from the driveshaft or whereever it was coming from was due to a motor mount bracket that snapped. I welded it back together, mounted it back up, and it's good as new. I guess with that bracket being broke the whole engine and transmission were cocked to the one side, assumably putting too much pressure on something in the back of the tranny. But, it's fixed now, I once again thank everyone for their help, I'd still be out there getting greasy if it wasn't for you guys.
something we don't see too often on the Aeros, broken steel MM bracket
Yeah, I was surprised to see that it was broke in two spots. two of the three mount holes were broken off, and only two bolts were actually holding it in. Everyone go check your motor mounts and make sure you got all your bolts in there. What do you guess was actually making the WW III noises. I don't know what is inside the back of the transmission, but that is what it sounded like.
