Actually, for some a drop-in is a viable alternative. If you regularly throw in heavy objects its going to spread the shock better and prevent dents. Obviously, the consideration of water under the liner is a problem, but if you use the crap out of your truck and will wear it out mechanically in a few short years its a good alternative.
I plan to keep the F250 for 10+ years. Its a heavy driving week if I put 50 miles on it because I work out of my basement office, so the body needs to last that long. I don't often toss heavy things into it (except firewood once a year) so a spray-in is a better option for me. Other's situations may differ.
