I guess this is sort of a rant, but not really intended to be that way. I see a lot of folks reply to a thread just to subscribe. There is actually a much easier way. On the blue tool bar directly above the first post is a "Thread Tools" button. If you click that, it will open a drop down list of options. One of them is "Subscribe to this Tread". Click that, and the rest is self-explanatory. I actually subscribe to very few threads and have turned off the instant email notification by default and only use it for threads I'm highly interested in. BTW, if you're using a browser with tabbed browsing (most of you should be by now), you can right-click the "Subscribe..." button and open it in a new tab so you don't browse away from the thread you're reading.
Attached is a pic of exactly where the subscribe button is -- again, this really isn't a rant, just a suggestion to save some folks a few keystrokes (and maybe email traffic too).
Joe do you know how to not subscribe to threads. Every thread that I post in shows up as subscribe. I have looked all over user cp and can't find it any where.
Yep. Click "User CP" on the blue tool bar above. You can open that in a new tab, too. I leave that tab open whenever I'm on FTE because it's an easy way to get to PMs instead of browsing off the forum page.
Anyway, after you get there click "Edit Options" under "Settings & Options" in the left tool bar.
Then select "Do not subscribe" in the drop-down list in the "Default Thread Subscription Mode" window. This is in the main window under "Messaging & Notification", not on the left tool bar.
That's how I do it Ray. It's a pain in the ****. I'd like to pick the threads that I subscribe to. Not have to unsubscribe to the ones that I don't.
You can also go do the "go advanced" reply method and scroll down to thread subscription. I lets you choose 5 options: dont subscribe, no email notification, instant email, daily email, or weekly email. I like getting instant ones on the ones I reply to, but I've changed a few to weekly (like the "how many miles do you have on your superduty" one.)
