OK guys, oil was changed to Rotella 15/40 and truck still runs like its on 2 cylinders when you first fire it up. It's been 60-70 when I start it up in the morning, and something is not right. Floor the gas.....NOTHING happens. I have to let the truck warm up for at least 15 mins before I can drive off. It's really bad.
I took it my friend that works on diesels, and he things the injectors are going bad. The engine has 180,000 miles on it, and I don't have any records as to what has been replaced or change.
Do bad injectors cause the truck to run badly when the engine is cold (regardless of outside temps)
Take off the oil filler cap when started, and describe here how much vapour flows out of the cap, and the nature of the puffs.
No blow by at all, and actually very very little smoke on startup.
THe idle is rough for a minute, but I literally cannot accelerate the truck at all for at least 10-12 mins. Once the start is started, if I floor the accelerator, NOTHING happens. After about 7-8mins, it gets a little bit better, but still undrivable for least 10-15mins.
You probably have a sensor acting up. You really need to get it on a scanner and check things like ICP, IPR, EOT, etc. while the truck is cold. Otherwise you'll just start throwing money at parts as a guess.
I'd have to agree with Chris (F350-6) that you need to take it somewhere and have a scanner hooked to it. Pull the codes and take it from there. It could be as simple as a sensor that's gone bad. I believe it's electrical, but couldn't tell you where. They will probably have to let it sit overnite to cool down to get the truck to act up and see what's not working properly.
I went with Rotella 5-w30 fully synthetic oil( I think its called 5-w30), anyway...it really helped mine start better AND run better....smoother. Just my .02 worth
