I have an 1997 regular cab long bed f350. I have been having a driveline vibration and I determined that it was the rear u joint. I decided to replace both u joints. When I put in the new front joint it just slid right in, no pressing required, also the rear u joint can be slid back and forth between the tangs on the rear yoke. The truck has 220000 miles and I've had it for about 8000 and it only had a vibration for about five days before I tore it apart. Do I need to buy a new drive shaft and rear yoke? If so where is the best place to get the parts? My truck is sitting in my driveway and I need to get it back on the road asap. Any advicie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Start by removing the rear straps on the yoke. take the straps and give it a small whack with a hammer. just a small whack just enough to flatten a little. do that to both and reinstall. See where you stand with the vibration then. if its smooth don't worry about the other u-joint. as long as its not chucking back and forth you will be alright.
Thanks, but I'm thinking about the future. Shouldn't the u joints have to be pressed in? I can just push them in by hand right now. I don't want to have to do it all over again in a month or two.

I have done a few u-joints on different trucks that had loose fitting caps, most of them never developed any problems. If you have the funds a new DS is the way to go.
If you can slide the U joint caps back and fourth in the driveshaft yoke with the clips in, Yes, replace the driveshaft yoke. You can just have them cut it off, and weld on a new yoke and rebalance it. I've built an *** load of driveshafts for my mud truck and guys that I race with. I've never seen U joint caps go all the way in by hand. If you can jiggle it inside that yoke hole, I say replace it.
Rubberduck....is there anything you don't know or know how to do?
I think I have seen you post on about every topic that comes up and usually you have some cool/easier way to complete the work in question ie glowplugs, this DS problem
Thanks for making my head big Mav. I just enjoy working on trucks. That's why I never made it my job. If I did, it wouldn't be fun anymore.
RV, I'm certain there is some sort of drive train shop near you. They are everywhere, but sometimes they are sneaky and their name doesn't tell you they are a drivetrain shop.
