lately it seems my egts have been a bit high. i towed a tractor 2 weekends ago, no prob, egts only came close to 1,000# a few times, with 20,000#. (1,000 is where i let out, as soon as i hit it, and never higher than 950 for any amount of time.)
well, it has been hitting 800around town lately with only the empty 7,000#ish trailer. seems odd, and has been taking a long time to idle down. so, today i got outta school at 1:30 as always and got to work. at 8:30 i quit and went to advance auto parts and got a little American Products oiled filter and put on in place of k+n till i get it cleaned. on the way home, it still wasnt hard to hit 800 with just the trailer driving fairly easy, but it cooled down faster. any ideas what would be causing it to be high lately, with no programming changes? REMEMBER- this all post-turbo too!
my y pipes are leaky looking too, reckon it could be part of it? how do i fix that? its not as easy as spyder boots is it?
start by moving your egt probe.
There can be (remembering Rubberduck's post) anywhere from i think 200 to 500 degrees post turbo...
What makes you think leaky pipes?
Could be the your intake boots are leaking and your loosing boost. Take it off clean it really well with brake cleaner and put it back on with the clamps nice and tight. See where you stand. Also looks for pre turbo exhaust leaks. Those hurt boost as well. Either of those could cause higher EGT's
To do the boots? Shouldn't take to long if you don't have to mess with intercooler pipes. The y-pipe boots are kind of tricky to put back on. I would say you should have both boots clean and put back together in 30 min or so.
