ok, so i have been doing alot of searching and learning for lockers (more specifically aussie locker) to be used in the front of my truck (95 f150 stock).
the main issue is that locker in front and 4wd engaged will b hard to control since if u turn itll want to keep goin straight in snow, but i thought that if u turn w/o using gas, the locker will unlock and act as a regular open diff. so i guess my question is is that if anyone have used front lockers in snow tell me your experience and whether or not the unlock in snow while turning
in snow ive had them unlock and stay locked all my experiance has said never trust it to unlock. my theory behind this is while you let off the gas the engine is still sending power to the front wheels and with the wheels slipping in the snow there isnt enough traction to slow the tires to unlock the locker.
I have an Aussie Locker in my Front D44, and it works great for me.
No experience in snow, so no comment there, but in the mud it turns very easily when not on the gas.
Even when powering through a turn, as long as there wasn't a lot of traction (mud), it doesn't feel like that much of a strain on the power steering pump, and barely noticable through the steering wheel..
i forgot to add this as i was trying to chase a 2 year old around. i think either way you will nto be unhappy. it might take some getting used to and you will have to relearn how to steer your truck but the pros outweigh the cons imo.
This is why a selectable like an arb or ox is your best bet. Because an open diff is your best bet on really slick conditions or trying to make tight turns in snow and stuff. Open when you need it and then fully locked at the push of the butten
Maybe its the weight of George vs your bronco but I dont have much trouble at all turning in the slippery stuff. In fact I dont have any of the problems normally associated with a locked front diff unless Im on hard ground.
in my case i think its just mainly b/c the spool in the rear......it just hooks up and dont want to stop or turn....front tires are just there for rudders.....
