Headlight / Tail Light Suggestions

Hi all, I am a newbie here and would like to replace/upgrade my headlights and tail lights on my '01 X. I am interested in the projector/halo style for the front and something that looks good for the back.

Any suggestions on places to go? Types to get? Good or bad experiences?

BTW, I did search this topic and didn't find anything I was looking for.

TIA,

Kris

You could always join the 3-color taillight club! Membership is easy and the members list is growing. They're a very elite group. I hope to be joining in about a week.

Can't help you with the headlights. I like the 05 lights, personally.

Thanks for the reply. Hope the install goes well for you. I am not a fan of the amber color on the tail lights. I don't care for them on my '91 SHO either.

I am just trying to figure out which place to buy. I have found a couple of sites that offer the headlights I am interested in, including eBay. The one's on eBay are much cheaper though. Kind of makes me nervous. However, the lights seem to be exactly the same.

Must do more info. searching.................

I too have the amber tails...love 'em. To each their own.

About the headlights...I have never heard a good review about the import aftermarket headlights. I have never had them, but from what I have read they get moisture inside, etc.

I'm going for clear headlights and tails on mine from MTR. They have some decent stuff.

Billet Grilles, Mesh Grilles, Running Boards, Fender Flares, HID Kits, Euro Taillights

The only other exterior mod will be a Billiet grille and that's it (besides a set of low key 20" wheels). I just want it to be different (not to stand out too much).

Too damn funny!! Those are the exact ones I am looking at but in black! There seem to be several people/companies that are selling them. I guess I will have to do some comparison shopping.

A billet grille and new side mirrors are also something I want to do. Not sure about wheels yet, maybe somewhere down the road.

In response to the import getting moisture in them, I guess that would suck but I am not sure if it would bother me more to have moisture or the crappy yellowing/film that occurs on the headlights that make them look cloudy as well........

These seem to be the lowest priced models I've seen so far, but personally, I'd pay more for quality models that didn't produce the moisture problems.

Can anybody recommend a good reliable manufacturer?

I guess that would easily be resolved by drilling small diameter holes in the casing which would be virtually invisible.

I'll have to do some research myself too. And yeah, I'm not too fond of the "fogged up eyeglasses frosty" look on my current headlights myself.

I've been thinking about the headlights myself. Ken can attest to how bright and clear the Expy headlights were... that has to be the ONE thing that I miss on my 04 X. I want lights as bright as I had before. Are the 05s any better than the 04? I really want the high and low on at the same time.

Headlight & Taillights...

I replaced my headlights (04 Excursion Lmtd) with the projector "black" type and tail lights - got both off of ebay - about $350 for all - then about $150 in upgraded bulbs and adding a top socket on the rears - e-mail me (mlshelton@aol.com) tomorrow or whenever and when it's light out I will take some photo's and send to you. Overall, I'm pretty happy with them and it dressed the looks up a little...

Coincidentally, I still have the original headlights / taillights, are these worth anything to anyone?

Mike

"amber" (meaning a yellow) is only legal for TURN SIGNALS. "stop" and "running" lights - in fact, ANY light visible from the rear that is NOT a "turn signal", MUST BE RED IN ALL JURISDICTIONS IN THE UNITED STATES.

If you have ANY yellow light on, that can be seen from the rear, other than, again, TURN SIGNAL, you are just ASKING for a "equipment check" stop.

As for headlights, be sure they do not shine in oncoming traffic. You blind a law officer in many jurisdictions either with YOUR hi beams, AND/ or with illegal headlamps, and, again, you are JUST asking for an "equipment check" stop.

In some jurisdictions, blinding headlamps WILL get your car impounded and towed to some local garage, where you can find out how much it will cost to get the car "repaired to meet the vehicle code", and then released....! Why go out with a "chip on your shoulder"...looking for trouble ? Dosnt make sense to me.

Bottom line, last time I checked, stock factory production lighting equipment, both front and rear, on Excursions, meets all federal and state lighting standards. Anyone ever heard the expression "IF IT AINT BROKE..DONT TRY AND 'FIX' IT.." ?

I have found the EBAY stuff to be the biggest selection anywhere. I am willing to spend the money and go LED for the rears but the front I want to put the headlights that are all clear with no yellow showing. I will be putting in several strobe kits in front and rear so I need something I can modify easily and insert the strobes. I know it will be a pain but I have to put them in...anyway, EBAY is the only place I have found the selection for both.

6686L, the lights that alot of people are using to get the "amber" lights are factory ford van taillighs. they ONLY have the amber TURN SIGNAL. as far as the ain't broke theory, well, it's an opinion, and we all know what they are like......should i also think that there is absolutely not one single thing that you have to your X yet??? c'mon, mods are fun. its wha..t makes our trucks truely our own..
