Considering Install of 2004 Van Multi-Color Taillights

Hi All,

I'm probably covering old ground here, but any thoughts/experiences with installation of 2004 E-Series Van multi-color (Amber T/S, Red Brake, and of course, Clear backup) in an Excursion (Mine's a 2002).

Whenever possible, I like to use the factory stuff, but I'd consider LED replacement bulbs instead of, or in addition to the swap.

If anyone has done so, I'd like to see pictures of the install, and any pitfalls associated with doing the conversion. I'm unsure (candidly, haven't really checked) if the TS bulb is separate on the Excursion taillights, or integrated with the running light bulb. I'm confident that the taillight assembly would fit, based on a fairly close examination of past and current Van/Excursion taillight assemblies. I haven't made a final decision, but I am considering the swap.

Thanks In Advance,

Bob

Smile Contact/Tech Info On Taillight Swap (tri-color van)

Thanks very much for the quick reply. I thought it should be a direct swap, and I like how it looks on Matt's Dark Blue (Mine's Black). Pretty much makes me want to proceed. Did Matt post a 'Gotcha's/Pitfalls' install write-up, or is it really a direct swap, including the TS bulb being separate? I don't know the process to contact Matt directly (as in a PM).

Smile Going to try the Ford Van (92-94) Taillights in the EX

Hi All,

Well, based on the inputs, and the probability of success, I'm going to try the replacement with the Van Multi-Color taillights. I was able to obtain NOS lenses from Ebay (still in the original packing) @ 39.95/each plus shipping. It seems a reasonable risk to take. Hopefully, it'll be a direct replacement, or at least minimally difficult to integrate into the Excursion. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to post the process when I'm done.

Wish Me Luck,

Bob

Can you find the link to your halo type again? The one below in this thread is broken....I'm still not happy with the output of my projector one's, even with
max wattage bulbs. Thanks.

Here ya go.

You will have to trim a tad more for these to fit, but if you have already cut for the projectors then it's not that much.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts...=p4506.c0.m245

Tri-Color (Van) Taillights in the Excursion

Hmmm,

Well, I finally checked the existing taillights in the Excursion, and it was as I suspected, the Brake/Turn signal bulb is integrated. That implies that I'll have to mod the wiring harness to correctly implement the separate Amber TS function. Kinda a PITA, but not wholly unexpected, I have to admit. The only undecided aspect of the conversion is to completely isolate the TS function to the Amber portion of the new taillights, or to permit the existing TS configuration to function as well as the Amber. I'm leaning towards that approach, but not firm on that aspect yet. My thoughts are that the only way to isolate the Brake light function from the new Amber portion of the lense is to tap into the harness at either the TS switch, or possibly at the 7-wire Bargman connector harness. If anyone can contact Matt (PA) or anyone else who's done this conversion, I'd really appreciate it. I can do it of course, but they might be able to offer some guidance on a quick way to implement the function without any harness mods.

Thanks,

Bob
