If it's a powerstroke, it's HEUI: Hydraulic/Electronic Unit Injector
So neither of you are right haha

Yes it is electronic High pressure direct injection but its not quite like the new common rail direct injector. But it is certainly not mechanical injector with and injector pump.

I think Electronically-controlled hydraulically actuated is the appropriate way of putting it. So, ya, you're both wrong.

Technically yes they are both wrong but if he said its was electronic HPDI he is more right than his friend!

I like this answer better then mine! I was describing more the injector itself as opposed to the injection process

Most definately.
Mechanical would be a common-rail type of setup, right?

No mechanical is like the IDI with a central injection pump and lines running to each injector. The pump sends a pulse of high pressure fuel to the injector when its supposed to fire.

Common rail has a fuel rail with high pressure (21,000 Psi) fuel in it all the time and electronic (piezio(sp?))injector that meters the fuel.

Gotcha
Ya piezo's are cool stuff. I work with items that use them...
