Truck likes to stall at stop lights
I have a 97 super duty with the 7.3psd with an automatic. For the longest time, it likes to stall at stoplights. It will also stall if I let it sit and idle. I have changed the CPS 3 times, and has made no difference. Have changed the air filter and fuel filters several times. I have cleaned the screen on the side of the fuel filter housing. I use diesel fuel treatment in every tank of fuel. I keep the oil changed on a regular basis too. It does run pretty strong most of the time. It will however, on rare occasion, act like it has a miss. That is rare though. Any possibilities that you might have would be appreciated. Thanks, John

I changed the oil and for some dumb reason, it seems to have quit stalling, for the monent. I will check the IPR o-rings, and probably replace the ICP sensor. It still idles a little rough, so I know the oil change wasn't the cure it needs. When I get time to do those 2 things, I will let you know the results. Thanks, John

Is the rough idle ,, cold & warm?...

IPR may be shot or maybe some junk in it ,,,If you can ,,get it on a scanner ,,,look at ICP pressures ,& IPR DC%...Could be many things when guessing ...ICP may be fluctuating ,,,,Again ...a scanner will eliminate a lot of guessing...

IPR orings. If it runs better cold than when warm the thinner oil is getting past the worn/damaged orings causing it to run bad. My .02

That's what I was kinda thinking. Are the O-rings a dealer only item? Also, I assume this is an easy fix. I read that I need to make a custom wrench to remove the IPR. A29mm deep well socket with a 4" long handle welded to it. What, if anything will I have to remove from the "valley of hell" to get to it? This is my work truck, so I don't start to do anything on it that might prolong down time. I likke to have all possible problems covered before I dive into it.

Look here for the repair:

The Ford orings are more $$ than IH dealer. Try to get them from there.
IPR O-Ring Kit (for when IPR valve replacement is not required)
(Ford) F6TZ-9C977-AN (F6TZ-9C977-AA?)
(International) 1825806C92 (1825806C91?)

I had a job at a Ford dealership in Louisville this morning so I asked them to hook the truck up to a scanner. I told the tech the problem and he agreed with you guys that the problem was probably with the IPR. There was no code that would say for sure that the IPR is bad. Since I was already there, he had the time, and I didn't, he installed a new IPR. Yeah, $500.00 bucks, but they still owed me in the end. The truck now idles smoother than it ever did, and did not stall once coming home. I'll give it a week and I should know for sure by then. I will let you know. Thanks, John
