I've just decided to do my part and drive no more than 65mph. I had folks passing me like I was standing still (mind you, this is on a toll-way with a 60mph speed limit!!). One guy was riding my *** for a while, then flew by me only to jam on his brakes when we came up to a Trooper with a customer... CLASSIC!!!
Maybe we should all drop it to 60 max and really start clogging up the highways. We could hang a sign on our trucks saying "Conserving Diesel -- Vehicle Max Speed 60 MPH" or something similar...
there meeting with 4 senators.....there is over a 1000 trucks...sounds like there getting a little further then the other strike...i like your idea to Joe...

we had 32 trucks out on the dirt run today Joe, and not 1 exceeded 50 mph.
we had traffic backed up on all roads in a 20 mile radius.
and the funny part about it is, today, we used less fuel that any other day in the past month.
we are considering keeping it at 50.

I'm so sick of being tailgated I could cry. I even thought about getting the smoke tune because of it. A good cure for them jerks is to stand on the brakes for no reason at all, and I mean really stand on them. If they hit you just tell them you did not want to hit the rabbit that was running across the highway. You're a bunny humper at heart, one of the reasons you're driving so slow. Gotta keep the earth green by conserving fuel, right?
I have actually been setting the cruise control at the posted speed limit instead of 7 over. Every little bit will help, I dont think we are going to see a change in fuel prices for quite a while.
Did an experiment yesterday. My work truck has 2 tanks. I filled them up, and took off. The first tank, I drove between 70 and 75mph, with the exception of a little drive in town, maybe 5 miles at most. I got 11.01mpg. The engine was running around 2750rpms. The second tank, I kept it down to 60 to 65mph and I got 13.07mpg. It was all interstate, except for the little town drive I did on the first tank. I do not have a cruise control, so I had to do the best with my foot. I will be slowing down.

I'll bet cruise would be good for another mpg. But this is what I've been preaching since my very first mpg post using my original user name years ago. It works for sure!
Another note on this. My first PSD was an OBS '95 with the duel tanks. I had a six man crew on the road all the time putting up steel building's all over the country. We would take my motor home, the OBS and a POS brand new Dodge my son just had to have cuz it looked cool. What Junk! But on to the story. When we would switch drivers with the CC OBS I would also switch tanks with drivers and would regulate everyones speed in our little caravan with the motor home's speed. I could get the OBS to lose or gain as much as 5 mpg, just by changing 12 mph's up or down. It was an experiment to help with the long hour's on the road and a learning lesson at the same time.
There is only one living politician in the country right now that I would like to see as President today. Believe it or not he is a Dem.......
Zel Miller!?
I have been riding my ninja to work and back, getting 42mpg! I only use my truck on weekends and even then not too much. I sold my wifes suburban and bought an 07 camry hybrid. (didnt have to worry about this 2-3yrs ago)
If we all drive the speed limit to conserve fuel, then speeding tickets would go down and the state would have less revenue (theres a plus)
If Car Manufaturers would produce more efficient vehicles say one that gets 100mpg or hydrogen or a hybrid that was electric and solar, and we all bought one. Well then "BIG OIL" would have massive layoffs due to no demand, our highways would have less fuel taxes to maintain them and would fall into disrepair (moreso than now!) So Unce Sam would have to tax us more to cover these other costs.
YOU BET!!! Would he be great or what? Maybe even better than Reagan. Have you ever heard his "Snake in the Garden" speech. I think a search on the net will find it for anyone that's interested, but it will give you cause to think.
I don't think anyone gives a rat's @$$ about diesel prices -- but now that it's double what it was a year and a half ago, maybe folks will begin to understand why it costs are going up for everything else. It's a absolute ludicrous situation that none of the powers that be care to fix.
Maybe folks will start to care when 1) there is no food in the grocery stores or 2) no fuel at the stations. It won't matter what gasoline costs, if there isn't any gasoline to pump. Or, if things get bad enough, the railroads won't be able to afford to feed their diesel locomotives, and the price of electricity will skyrocket because of what it'll cost to transport coal.
All those people out there who didn't seem to care about the truckers or about diesel fuel are going to start to care, a lot, and real quick.
The news stations around here have been discussing the diesel fuel situation more and more. Did you guys see Bush on the news last night calling for Congress to do something about the high cost of fuel and food?
