they just put out a statement that if something doesn't happen by May 5, they are going to halt all deliveries (emergency items the exception). i wonder just how many are on board for this?
That's not gonna happen......I work for the Railroad, and the government will NOT let us do any type of "work stoppage strike" it's not like the old days.......federal laws are ridiculous in practical situations.
I doubt anything will happen - The legal process is slow with little result. So many special interests - I'm 19 and I've lost most faith in our governments ability to truly serve for the people in the peoples best interests. Its usually serving to who has the most money - in their interests. It makes me very sad to think we are helpless -

With this said that would mean everything on a delivery would become an emergency
without fuel, food or any thing on hauled by truck,we would all die.
I haul mail at night in a five state radius, with out mail all your bills would stop coming, that means you would lose everything you owe on, every thing would be shut off.

Well thats true - but whats the alternative? Wait till diesel hits $7-8-9 / gallon ?? Then pay $300-400 to fillup? Its a lose lose
Randy, i know what it means, that is why I think it is damn near impossible. let's not forget that china-mart, heb, and a lot of other big ones have their own fleets.
this fuel situation is ridiculous and something needs to be done. hell, the grocery and light bills are just as obscene too.
I would love to see the trucking comunity stick together it may shine a new light 0n the the world looks at tranportation...these poor guys driving thier trucks just hanging on by a tread to keep their equipment...my dad drove all his life he told me that in the 80's he would get at least 2000$ to go from toronto- cali.....when fuel was way cheaper....now some companies do that same run for less money I just can't figure it out, why ppl would do the same job for nothing????
To start with Im a truck driver...A FULL strike (one thats gonna be heard and seen!!) is NOT going to happen. ONE we're not organized enough,TWO we dont have anyone going to washington to state what we want. Untill we come together and strike with ONE VOICE and have SOMEONE SPEAKING FOR ALL OF US its rediculous even talikng about a strike......Just my02cents!!
Hey,
I did a rough cost comparison of how diesel fuel has increased since 2000 (all of the info gathered from the internet sites) and compared the percent increase to the IRS allowable mileage rates. In 2000, roughly 25% of the allowed mileage rate went to actual cost of the fuel and 75% of the rate to "other" costs such as maintenance, etc.
As the fuel costs have increased, the portion for actual fuel costs has reversed. Now, it is approx. 75% of the allowed rate going for the fuel and 25% of the rate going for the "other" costs.
Based upon this rough analysis, the allowed IRS rate should be $1.00/mile rather than the meager $.505/mile. Interesting!!
Schlepprock379 That one voice is still missing,HOFFA, he may hay got the message to whom needed to hear it.
You cant get 100 owner operators to get together, maybe 75 out of 100 while the other 25 are stabing the other 75 guys in there back and stealing their work.

Well its really gonna take more than just a trucker strike to get fuel prices and cost of living in general down....WE as a people of these UNITED STATES are gonna have to take control of the country back from the politicians. I do think it will get WAY WORSE before it gets any better. We dont have a candidate who even knows what the problems are...let alone know how to solve them, not Mcain,Obama, nor Clinton!
I still have my horses, a pair for driving, and 3 for riding when it comes to it. If anyone needs a lift some where just give me a few days and Ill be there.
Randy, some of the towns in eastern Iowa still have hitchin' posts for the Amish. You'd fit right in. They are probably laughing at us as they pass the gas stations.

Ditto that. There is only one living politician in the country right now that I would like to see as President today. Believe it or not he is a Dem. and sadly just to old. A former Marine (there's no such thing as an ex-marine) that it would not take a whole lot of brain cells to figure out who this American is, I will give a couple of hints and anyone that cares can figure it out. A former US Senator and a Former Governor of a Southern state.
