hi I have an 02 7.3 PSD. Last night I tried to start my truck and about half way into turning over it just quit. I waited and tried again but got no cranking sound at all. I figured it was the batteries so I went and got two new ones. Still no cranking. lights come on and everything else sounds like it kicks in just no cranking sound when I turn the ignition.I replaced my starter relay solenoid last week because I was told it needed to be replaced by the guy I bought it from a couple months ago. He also said he replaced the starter not long ago. It was pretty cold where he lives and I dont think he was waiting long enough for the glowplugs to warm up. Anyways I am stuck so if anyone has advice that would be great. oh yeah I think I also have a leak around my high pressure oil pump to top things off! thanks.

Do you have remote start? The starter wire under the column is interrupted for the brain box, and if it has a blown fuse it will not allow the starter signal to get to the solenoid.
There are also starter interrupt anti-theft devices. Look at the harnesses under the column, see if anyone has tapped anything into it. Other wise check your fuses and contacts.
My 02 PSD CC SB 4x4 just did a similar thing! We were at the ice cream shop for some cones for the kiddies, and when my sweetheart went to start the truck, it went through the normal checklist (all of the lights on the instrument panel came on and one by one went out), and when she turned the key.... nothing.
She tried a couple more times with identical results, then... VROOM!
She drove the truck home, parked it in the driveway, and left it there. A few hours later I tried to start it and .... nothing.
Where do I look first (I have already looked and there are no security cut off devices)? I'm very familiar with GM diesel, but this one is new to me.
Start at the starter and check for power to the solenoid when the key is turned to start. If it's there, then you have an issue with the starter assembly. Work your way back from there checking components as you go. Even though I own one, I'd have to look to tell you exactly where to look for the next component. Do these have a redundant starter relay/solenoid like some other Fords do? Then check there for both power through the relay and signal from the key switch.
well, then you solved your own problem. if it cranked after you clunked on the starter, it probably have a dead spot or two in the starter. cold weather really kills those things. put a starter in it and cross your fingers.
