I don't think that companies like AT&T are going to allow their business to just collapse.
Maybe this is just to get us warmed up to the idea that it's going to cost us more to use internet services.
The internet isn't going anywhere, imo. But the price of it's use, like everything else, is probably going to increase.
They're planting fiber optic lines down the railroad tracks all over down here. They are upgrading the infrstructures. Things are just gonna keep humming right along until T3 happens and a killer robat from the future nukes us all.
I have a bridge, you might like to buy........... perhaps my Conventional Cab-over truck with the flatbed refer trailer would interest you !
Just another Con to strong arm the money from of our wallets IMO
Oh well the "Interweb" is nice to have, but for me it's a luxury not a way of life, so if it comes to a screaming halt tommorrow, I'll carry on, I will survive , life will continue, I was here before the "internet" and I'll still be here if it ceases to exist
Its pure ATT propaganda, so they can push through policies to charge for bandwidth. ATT isn't the "backbone". There is no backbone, but rather many companies which supply bandwidth from any two points. Even Google has tons of potential bandwidth available, they bought up a bunch of "dark fiber" (fiber optic lines laid with no current traffic) over the years. ATT, as usual, likes to play monopoly.
I have a Fine, Chevy Truck you can have cheap if you believe this hogwash...
IBM said in the 80's that NO ONE will ever need a personal computer in thier home. or Bill Gates saying that "We will never need more that 640kb of Ram"
I have 5 computers (2 laptops & 3 desktops) and 4gb of ram in one laptop and sometimes it still isn't enough ...
HOWEVER
Windows XP will no longer be available after June 30th 2008. This is a true fact.
Anyways, most of the fiber optic cable in the united states is not being used right now, that is also known as "dark" fiber. Something like 60% of all fiber optic cables in the US are dark right now. Just ATT trying to excuse their own sloppiness for not getting the fiber up and running soon enough to meet demand.,
Seems to me that anytime you have an ever increasing customer base, the price is the only thing that wiggles around.
Once upon a time nobody thought we'd have anything like the number of TELEPHONES we have today, too much demand...
Sound familiar?
The internet is an expanding CASH COW! Kill it? Yeah right.
I think they're (ATT) just pissed because more and more people could care less about going broke yakking on ATT Long Distance when they can essentially talk around the world for peanuts through email, forums, and blogs.
