I am doing the 6637 mod on my truck this weekend. First thing that shocked me was the price of the filter $65, oh well it is cheaper than buying a whole intake setup. I do have a few questions. What do you use to hold the filter up off of the fender or do you just let it sit on the fender? Second, I cannot find 4" tubing anywhere in my area, will PVC work?
You can save a few dollars by ordering the filter here FleetFilter.com enter 46637 in the search box. It's showing $28.29 ea. plus freight. Freight is usually cheaper if you order 2
Letting the filter rest on the fender is fine, and there are several guys who have used a 3" PVC coupler (4" o.d.) for the connection. You usually have to find a medium truck exhaust shop to find the 4" steel pipe.

Thanks for the help. Dustan, My truck is a 350 but when I first came to the site I had an 88 450 so thats why my username is F450 Aaron. I'll post some pics of the new truck and Intake once I get it done.
I used a 3" pvc dwv coupling to do the mod. You can see some of the pvc between the filter and intake hose. I used a small grinder to take the little tit on the side off and I also took the stop on the inside out. And yes that is one of Pets covers.
Here is a picture of the original drain setup that Pete, if I remember correctly used in his system. I went to Home Depot and found a similar and smaller "Y" Pipe and got the 3/4 screw in barbed fittings in each end and just put it in the middle of the vent line down under the cab and ran the 3/4 hose all the way out to the back bumper. Every couple of thousand miles all you have to do is unscrew the cap from the bottom of the "Y" and see if anything has accumulated down there. Over 10,000 miles on mine and so far all I a have collected is maybe 2 drips....Nothing to speek of for sure. Take a look and see if you might be able to find one. It doesn't restrict the air flow and creates a "low place" for any moisture to collect....
I finally drained my big trap (pictured above by Dave) for the first time since last summer when I put it in... got about 4 ounces of oil out of it.
Here are my observations on the trap issue.
1. Just installing a trap doesn't gurantee successful capture of entrained liquid (or condensation). Without some sort of "filtration" or "impingement" or "internal packing surface area" for the entrained mositure to be captured by, it wil simply continue to blow through. I forgot to install my "packing material" when I put in the monster trap, and caught absolutely nothing until I did manage to shove in some super coarse scotchbrite pad. I'm getting ready to shove in some of those really coarse stainless steel pot scrubbing pads to get extra condensation surface area.
2. As long as you use a large enough cross-sectional flow path and coarse enough materials, you won't have a pressure problem with it.
3. You'll capture more condensed vapors in the winter time than in summer (Dohh!).
4. A drain valve on the bottom is a lot handier than a screw plug (same principle as putting in a Fumoto drain valve in place of the stock plug in your oil pan).
Good point on the filter media thing. I haven't put anything at all in my "Y" piece and like I said, I hadn't gotten anything from it so far. I am not really looking to "filter" the fumes but just to say "Gee whiz, there is something in the smoke" kinda thing. I don't know that I will try to filter it out or anything but it is just there to have a place to look at what "might" drain there. When I put mine in, I just found a place and took out a section of the tube and put it in place. I still have the slight smoke out the back so I know there is good flow and no chance of clogging up.
In looking under the hood after doing this mod, I found that the filter rubs on the fender, which I am not worried about. I am however worried that it is resting against the brake fluid resivoir, and the hot pipe of the intercooler. Do i need to worry about this? or is it normal?
