I am doing the HPO X Over and when I removed the plugs to put my new fittings in I noticed that the oil was very black looking. I have about 500 miles on a oil and filter change.
My ? is, how and when does the oil in the HPO system get replenished?? with the new cranck case oil?
Or do I have to drain the HPOP res. and fill with new oil??
Well the HPOP oil will be re-circulated with the CC oil. Some people like to change it at the same time so you get a "complete" oil change, however, there is still alot of oil in galley's etc. so it's really not necessary.
As another note, PSD oil just gets dark! I've put new oil in, drove around, check level and it's dark as night, just the nature of the beast. So I'd say you have nothing to fear. how you like the HPX? Love mine! Hope this helps!
So the oil does get circulated, ok. The oil must get dumped back to the CC through the low preasure side of the injectors??? Is this right?
I haven't fired the truck with the X over. I am waiting for the fittings and a guage so I can install a fuel preasure guage at the FPR.
Check out the tread I started yesterday, "Motor trany swap" https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...rany-swap.html
Thanks guys
a minimal amount gets dumped from the injectors everytime they fire, the majority of it gets dumped via the ipr valve. at lower loads the ipr allows the pressure from the pump to bleed back to the cc, at higher loads and demand it closes more to keep the oil pressure up
