Motor Trany swap
A Bit of history!!, A couple months ago the trany went in my 94 f250 ex cab 4x4, 7.3 IDI, e40d.
My doner truck is a 95 f250 4x4 7.3 powerstroke e40d that I rolled last winter.

I did my homework and pulled the motor and trany from the doner, I had it running several times since the roll over, smoked alot. Any way, I was just wanting to swap trany's , but the TC's between the two years have a different bolt pattern to the flex plate, so I decided to go for it and do a complete swap. NOT as easy as you may think!!!
After pulling the motors and trany's from both trucks all the wiring had to be swapped as well, not only the motor harness but the cab wiring harness too. The dash had to come out to get it out and I learned a few tricks to that.
While going to all that work I decided to do a couple basic mods too, First was the down pipe. I priced out several pipes from diesel performance shops and couldn't believe they wanted $250 for about 3' of bent 3" pipe!!! So I went to the local muffler shop and bought 2 3" mandrel bent elbows, 4' of 3" pipe and 4' of 4" pipe to conect to my existing 4" tail pipe. Payed 140 for the works. I cut the taper flange off the stock downpipe that connected to the turbo and used it for the downpipe connection end. After a afternoon of fitting, cutting and welding and I had a great flowing exhaust sysyem.
Next I did the Air intake mod with the air filter that everyone is using. Using a 4" 45 deg PVC street elbow, and a 4" rubber muff coupling( I think it is for conecting sewar pipe, but the fit for this app was perfect) I now have opened up the intake.
OK, put fresh batteries in and turned the key, wait to start light did its thing and the dam thing started.
let her idol for about 2 min than shut it down. had to replace a couple of fuses and fired her again. Let it get good and warm, topped up the trany fluid and took it for a burn.
Ok, Still a couple of issues:
- Smoking alot, kinda blue but smells like diesel. I was thinking that a good run will burn off any oil that is still in places it shouldn't be ( Remember the thing sat upside down over nite)
I am going to check the fuel preasure at the reg, maybe low, if so I will do the shim mod.
Than I will hook up a preasure guage on the HPOP and see what that is at.
- The other prob is the OD lite is flashing, and when out for the test burn the TC seemed to be locking intermittently. I will have to get the codes read and see. I will try to post some pics and any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.
Thanks to everyone that posts on here. The info that is available here is awesome!!

my engine hoist

- Fan shroud, cut in half and used small angle brackets to bolt it togeather. It is a real pain trying to get the fan threaded on with the shroud in the way, so why not make it a two piece.
Also the fuel lines. I cut out and deleted those stupid spring lock fittings. I cut the steel tube on either side of the spring lock and used bite type, flairless fittings os 3/8 hyd hose.
There must be an easier way to make a PSD convertible though LOL

THE BAD NEWS!! He said that the motor has a bad bump or miss in it at low RPM. He asked if I had used the starter to turn the motor over after I rolled the truck, I said YUP. He said the starter has enough torque to bend a con rod if the cyl. are hyrauliced. I said OH CHIT.
So now I will have to do a compression test to see whick cyl. or how many are !@#$ ed up.
Does any one know the tread size for the glow plugs?? I have several adaptors for my tester but don't know if I have one for the PSD. Thanks
