I was wondering if anyone has a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller. I have heard good things about Tekonsha and the Voyager is reasonably priced. I can't tell if it has a factory harness plug in available for my 03 F250. Any info would be appreciated.
I personally don't like them, but there's nothing wrong with them. I just don't like change so I stick with what I've always used. I've got a few of the Tekonsha's on some work trucks and never had any problems out of them.
As for the plug, I've just used the ones that come with the truck when new. If you can't find a plug for it, just get the pigtail from Ford and wire it up yourself. It's an easy job.
The Tekonsha is what you want. Question is, what model? My brother has the Voyager and he is happy with it, does what he needs. It's what the RV dealer installed for him, and if he was choosing one for himself I think he would get a little higher model. I had the Prodigy, and was very happy with it. The newest is the P3, and I'm sure it's at least as good as the Prodigy, and even better if you like bells and whistles, and LCD displays.
Those are all made by Tekonsha, so just pick your price point and buy it. Any of them will do the job.
Personally, I would spring for the P3. I never have buyers remorse when I've bought the best.
I have the P3, I love it. It was easy to set up. You can order a harness that will plug in the back, and in your trucks harness. I got mine from PPLMOTORHOMES.com. It was on sale and I got it for around $100.00. Shipping was free.
The Tekonsha Voyager is adequate. I used one on my 03 with no problems and I was satisified. The voyager is what I was given when I purchased my TT. I do like the Prodigy better though.
I absolutely love the Voyager!! It IS a little old-fashioned but then so am I.
I can still remember the REAL OLD units that you had to run a hydraulic line from a "T" in the brake line at the master cylinder in through the firewall to the controller!!!
I think the Prodigy's and the P3s are great, but are more designed for people who don't want to frequently adjust their controller using different trailers and/or loaded or un-loaded.
The Voyager is not available with the plug and play plug directly to a given vehicle, but the wireing isn't too hard at all.
Thanks for all the input. I think I'm going to go with the Voyager and buy the direct plug in harness for thier higher models. It shouldn't be too hard to splice the pig tails from the Voyager into the plug in for the other models.
I have the Voyager in my 04 350 CC. I use it to pull a 28' foot Thor Tahoe travel trailer. I'm very happy with it. I know a lot of people say the Prodigy is better but honestly how much better can it be? Your trailer brakes either work when you step on the pedal or they don't. Mine work great. In fact I like the idea of a dial resistor adjustment (Voyager) rather then a preset electronic number (Prodigy). I also like the fact that the Voyager only has power to it when your connected to trailer and complete the circut where the prodigy has a 15minute delay after you un-hook. Not a big deal but I don't like that it doesn't just turn off.
