98 F150 brake controller
I'm in the process of putting a brake controller and 7 pin plug in on my 98 F150 Super Cab, 4x4, 4.6 L with a auto trans. Got the Tekonsha Voyager hooked up to the existing harness under the dash. I have the 7 pin installed out back and thats where my problem begins. The 7 pin harness came with 3 30amp fuses and 2 relays that need to be placed in the power distribution box under the hood. I can figure out where the fuses go but my manual says nothing about the relays. The relays that are already in the box are for things like fuel pump etc. Any help on placing these relays is greatly apprectiated.
Process of alimination is what i used.. using the manual.. The 7 way connector kit had fuses and relays and i didn't use them all. Just two relays, I don't remember if i uses a fuse.. I will run out and take a picture and you can see if you can match it up.
In the engine bay box, fuses 1, 16, 28 are involved.
Under the dash fuses 18, 23 are involved and there may be some others on a quick look at the info..
Your 98 is not layed out an well as later years, for trailer tow.
If the trailer has electric brakes, a break-away battery has to be powered and under charge along with all the other functions through the 7 pin plugup..
For a copy of your manuel, look up Ford Fleet Maintanece website and down load your year.
Good luck.
So I don't need the relays that were supplied with the kit, just the fuses? Some of the fuses are in the panel are 20 amp. Should they be changed to 30 amps? Also was why fuse 18 under the dash? According to the manual that fuse is for instrument illumination
You already see the photo from a later year is not the same.
The F250s are very different yet, in that year range.
You have to work with what you have.
Good luck.
