2003 Diesel Excursion quit running

I'm writing this because as of today I'm two weeks without a vehicle and getting frustrated. The Excursion had started running a little rough and my husband said he was planning on taking it in to get it checked out. It reminded me of how it ran when started on a very cold day but it never seemed to "warm up" and run smoother.

I was driving along the road when, without any type of warning at all, the engine stalled. I was able to maneuver into a parking lot and attempted to start it two additional times. Each time the engine would start but quickly die. After sitting about 10 minutes waiting for a ride I was able to start the engine and turn the vehicle around in the parking lot. I was afraid to drive it anywhere in case it quit running again. My husband was able to drive it home when the dealership said they couldn't get it in until the following week.

I refused to drive it any more since I didn't want to repeat the experience. My husband drove it around the neighborhood a few times and said it seemed to be doing fine. He took it to go to a meeting about 20-25 minutes away and called me about 10 minutes into his journey saying he was headed back to the dealership because it had quit running on him on the interstate. This time he said there was a screeching sound before it died.

The dealership doesn't know what the problem is. They said they have about $2000 invested in troubleshooting thus far. I'm frustrated and they probably are too.

The Excursion has a 6.0 engine and about 71,000 miles on it. Never have had any problems with it to this point. Any ideas out there?

pors, you might wanna read this 6.0L Bible Table of Contents over and get familiar with the injector system.

Specifically look at the High Pressure oil sections to get you familiar with the system. There is both an O-ring(s) and a check valve thingy that can go bad or stick causing a no-start/no-go condition.

Then head down to the 6.0L forum and search for your issue. It has been addressed and there should be info for you. It's (unfortunately) fairly common. My neighbors just did it and it was the check valve thingy.

Here's a start... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ont-start.html Good luck!

The first bit of info received from the dealership is the compression tests aren't showing the right results. But they say they don't know what's causing it. In fact they say it could be multiple problems.
