I've been reading a few different publications lately, and in the advertisements at the end of a couple of them, I keep seeing this add for the "Fitch Fuel Treament". Supposedly, its a fuel catalyst that you either put in your tank, or as an inline "filter" in your sending fuel line. The idea behind it is that it deoxidizes your fuel, thus inproving the performance of the fuel. It can be used on gas or diesel vehicles and is supposed to increase fuel efficiency, Hp, etc.
Theres also another one on the market that is a powder that you put in with a full tank of gas and is supposed to make the same claims. My grandpa was given a free sample (enough to treat 200 gallons of fuel) but I haven't heard back as to what his results were.
My thousand dollar burning question is: do these products work? Has anyone tried them? and if so, what were your results? Summit Racing sells the Fitch Fuel catalyst for about $177 for a gas engine and around $265 for a diesel.
I'm considering buying one, but I won't do it unless I can get real accounts from actual users about what they've gained(or lossed) If the increase is bare minimal, then it would take a long time to offset the purchase price and the cost of my time and labor to install., but if it could gain 1 or 2 mpg's, then at $3.69/gallon of 87 octane, it would pay off fairly quickly. (for the miles I drive, the first year would pay for 2 of these units if I could get a 1.5mpg increase) - I drive a '98 F-250 LD w/5.4
If it was worth while, FORD would put it in the service manual and sell one with each truck. Can you imagine what it would be worth to FORD to have their CAFA average go up 2 MPG above other manufacturers.... or maybe this is really the million doller fix, but the BIG OIL COMPANIES have bought them out and are storing the infor away from us--- keep you money, tell Summitt to keep their junk.
"If it was worth while, FORD would put it in the service manual and sell one with each truck. Can you imagine what it would be worth to FORD to have their CAFA average go up 2 MPG above other manufacturers"
A bunch of sales, that's what! The idea that car companies are going to suicide for Big Oil when there are billions of dollars at stake (and hundreds of millions for successful CEOs!) is more absurd than the Flat Earth theory.

NO but a few ounces of acetone or the CVX fuel additive can improve throttle resoponse and help ge gunk fuel injectors which will give a mileage boost the amount depending on gunk removed.
I've never heard of using acetone as a fuel injector cleaner. How much would you put in a full tank (30 gallons)?
I've heard of/tried other fuel injector cleaners, but I never feel a difference in performance so it's hard to gauge whether it had any effect on your fuel injectors. And I don't exactly have the budget to go and dyno my truck to see if there were any gains...
