Hey I just bought a Optima red top for my 07 F150 and the factory mount doesnt quite hold the battery in place. Does anyone know a better mounting system or what did you do to hold your red top in securely.
P.S. has anyone had any troubles with the factory motorcraft batteries? My truck would not start on a cold 30F morning and sometimes it cranks a second or two longer than normal.
I have a Escort 9500i that I try to unplug most of the time. But today it only sat plugged in for 3 hours and it took a second longer to crank.
my motorcraft battery was having a hard time truning my truck over in 20 degree weather or so this winter. I am getting ready to fork out some cash for the optima red top myself. I talked to my local ford service guy and he blamed my battery on being 3 years old.....makes sense. anyways just my 10 cents.
If you contact Optima, they can supply you with a different plastic spacer. At least they did it for me when I purchased one of their batteries for my vette. Good luck.
Here's what you need. You can buy a billet holder on E-bay that is especially machined for Optima. I have a lot more photos if you are interested. This pic is part of a set of the Big 4 upgrade (1/0 gauge wires to alternator, battery, starter, chassis ground, and engine ground).
Damn Batteries!! I just replaced my motorcraft battery today. Truck was dead after a night of -20C. Battery was about 4 years old so I am not surprised. Also, it was only a 650 CCA rated battery. I replaced it with an 850CCA battery from NAPA. once installed, I have never heard the truck turn over so fast!
Living in a small town, we are limited to the local suppliers and they don't carry anything like the Optima in stock.
I just emailed optima about a bracket or ( adapter) and he said that when you buy the battery a bracket should come with it.
Yeah...you get this plastic adaptor/bracket seemed a little 'cheesy' to me, and thats why I went for the billet aluminum one that I found on E-bay. Its quite functional and does dress up the engine compartment some, so if you ever do open the hood it looks nice.

Any input is welcome.
I ahve an '08 and just had to change my motorcraft battery at about 2000 miles and 3 months old, had trouble starting on our cold southern california days. LOL If it got down to the 30's it wuld not crnk the engine.
Got an optima.
I should have also said that the battery would get a "red eye" sitting overnight and the last time the truck would not start I jumped it and drove for abt 2 hours and the red eye never turned green. I also had 2 motorcraft batteries die an early death on my 06 Superduty 6.0.
