Hey guys, Im starting to install the rest of my upgrades, what I would like to know is do I put the pyro probe in the uppipes just before the turbo,or do I put it just after the exhaust manifold connection?Thx in advance for all your help Schlepprock
If you pre drill the hole in the up pipe, be careful where you place it. The screw of the clamp may hit somewhere. Check its placement. It was close when I put mine on the first time. When I replaced the up pipes, I move the hole slightly to allow for more clearance of the clamp. I have also driiled and tapped, the exhaust manifold on a 6.0, with no problems. Just don't tap too deep for the fitting.
I have mine in the driver side up pipe. Having said that, the reason you need one is to monitor the temps in the cylinder as the piston is aluminum and is what will melt if overheated for too long. The best place is as close as you can get to that location which is in the manifold. If not, you can probably add some temp to the number you see. The further away, the more you can add to what you see VS what is in the cylinder.
BTW, my probe has been in the uppie for years now.

What is the hottest point of the engine? AFAIK, it is the cylinder. That melts at a lower temp as opposed to steel since it is made of Aluminum that melts at 1220. Steel at a much higher point. The exhaust manifold is the closest to the cylinder. Why do I care about the up pipes to the turbo? I'd rather it be in the exhaust manifold since I can't have it on the piston.
I drilled and tapped my drivers side manifold. It was really easy. I just laid on the ground and drilled it straight up and down. Almost all the shavings just fell out. Took a magnet and cleaned it out and barely had any shavings that didn't fall. Took about 5-10 minutes.

Placement depends on the type of install. Clamp type in up-pipe, drill & tap manifold' I have the clamp type.
