where is that speaker that dings when the door is open and the key is in the ign. i play the radio out of my truck and like the doors open. but that dinging is just so irritating. i would like to unplug it but i havnt been able to find it. thanks, dan
Under the dash above the throttle, small black box about 3 inches square by 1 inch thick. Just unplug it. Oh by the way this is also the headlight left on reminder.
FYI you can just unplug (at the chime box) the wire that goes to ignition switch, This way it will not chime with the key in, but it will chime every you open the door with the lights on because it can no longer tell if the key is in or out., also read this:

Many members have inquired about how to disable the door open warning that chimes when the key is left in the ignition and the engine is not running. There have been several methods proposed to eliminate this annoyance. They range from closing the door latch to clipping wires. The method I used is simple, quick, and easily reversible unfortunately it only works with trucks manufactured prior to 2000.
The first step is to remove the lower steering column housing cover. This requires a #2
Philips screwdriver to remove the three screws that hold the cover in place. You will also need to unscrew and remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Once the screws and lever are removed, the lower housing cover can be removed by unsnapping it from the top cover.
The next step is to remove the ignition key switch. This is easily accomplished by turning the key to the ON position. Do not start the engine! If you look closely at the underside of the steering column, in the area where the key switch is located you will see a silver colored recessed “button” in the key switch housing. Press this “button” in, using a small tool (one of the screws you removed in step one will work), and pull the key switch out.
After removing the key switch, look closely at the now empty switch housing. At the bottom left, at about 8 o'clock, you will see a black plastic connector that has a contact inside the switch housing. The connector has a dark gray, or black wire with 2 pink tracers on opposite sides of the wire. You need to remove this connector from the switch housing. The connector just slides in and out with little effort. The top steering column cover will be in the way, so pull it up just enough to allow the connector to come out.
Use electrical tape to insulate the connector and bend the wire up into the empty area under the switch housing. (Photo 4 shows removed connector)
Replace the key switch, it just slides back in and automatically locks in place. Replace the bottom steering wheel column cover and steering wheel tilt lever and you're done! A simple, five minute, fix and no more chime. All of the other chimes will still function as before, but now you can leave the door open and play your favorite tunes
I just pulled the black box and smashed it.
I didn't really smash it, but i don't remember where the hell I put it.
I wouldn't mind having the lights-on warning. It is not that hard to forget to turn them off this time of year when it is dark when you leave the house, but full light when you get to work.
Joe made a good suggestion a few weeks ago to just remove the wire for the door ajar tone and the key in tone. then it will still work for the headlights. It was a great idea. I might just have to find one of those boxes and reinstall that way. I leave my lights on every now and then! Good thing my batteries are huge!
thanks cOOn, but I only can see the silver pin, and you say is with a black wire, and it correspond to the green wire in the opposite side of the connector? is that right?
