Emissions Schematic Diagram
I have a 1986 Ford F250 4x4 with a 351W, C6 auto.
I took my truck in to get a new carburator installed.
To make a long story short, it seems that the first
place destroyed my emissions. According to the second
shop, "It looks like they just got a knife and cut all
the hoses off." Now I am illegal come inspection time.
They said that they could repair it, but they are unable
to get a copy of the emissions schematic for my truck.
My truck has dual air pumps and is a legal non-catalytic
engine. If anyone knows where I can get a copy of the
schematic for my truck. Pictures of the same type engine
may also be helpful. I just bought this truck and am
trying to restore it to perfect working condition. I
called Ford and they gave me the number to Helms Publishing,
but they are out of stock and don't know when they will
have any. Do their books have emissions schematics?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
86f250. I think I have Info But don't have way of sending it. I have 85 factory manuels from Helms. My exp has been tha chilton, hayne or nobody else comes close to giving complete and accurate inf. Continue to locate dealer that will work with you.At $60-70 shop time it could be exp to take to dealer. Question: if somebody changed carb did they put on the correct one? That is proably a holley 4180 W/o adj do to epa requirements. The mix screw's are there but preset and covered over w/metal. If inspection's are mandatory doubtful substitute carb i s acceptibleGood Luck Chuck
P.S. There should be a Emmision decal on core support, inner fender, under hood.I belive that egr or dist vac is also orficed. dist vac comes from carb above throttle plates. If your having trouble's check the three carb base gasket are not leaking or burnt thru. these gasket's are all different and was only available from dealer. If need part # I think I still have another set. They often need replaced every 20-30000 miles. always kept extra's on hand. dealer not alway's in stock.
cranked. They told me that I needed a new carb. They said that the carb was leaking and the choke was not functioning properly. They do not sell carbs, so I felt they knew what they were talking about. I ordered the carb from Summit Racing. I gave them all the info and the carb they sent was the wrong one. The linkage did not match up. I called Summit Racing again and they said that to fix that problem, I would have to buy a different carb and a new intake manifold. I ordered that. The intake manifold was incorrect, and I had to order another one. After about 2 months in the shop, 2 carbs and 2 intake manifolds later, the linkage still did not work, but it was somewhat driveable.
I took it to a small shop, and they said that for the linkage to work, I could only install an OEM carb, even though they are all Holleys. At least the second shop ordered the parts, instead of me, since my engine knowledge is not great.
The truck runs pretty good, now. But I think that due to the emissions not being attached is causing it to still run rough. Also, the 2 air pumps are both shot and need to be replaced. I appreciate all the help and information.
Actually, I called Helms about a manual, but they are out of stock for the 1986. They are supposed to send me a postcard when they get a new supply.
