thats not possible... can you explain more details? the ebp sensor does nothing to a 7.3 other then allow activation of the backpressure valve, and assuming the sensor somehow shorted and commanded the valve to close the truck would still start since the valve needs oil pressure to close and there is a 4-5 second delay in engagement. if the sensor fails you will only get a code stored, not even a light so i am confused as to how this could cause a no-start.
i am very curious to get more information on the problemd his truck had and how the sensor solved it. It was definatly the ebp sensor?

The truck died while idleing and wouldn't restart. The mechanic replaced the ebp sensor and glow plug controler and changed the oil. It's running now.
I would wonder about that mechanic. EBP should not cause a no start so why did he change that? GPR could cause a no start but not cause it to die. My guess is the oil was terribly old/bad or empty causing the truck to die. Mechanic changed oil and a few other things to get som money and...VOILA. Truck runs. This is just my opinion no offense intended. More info please.
Joe, is there a difference between OBS and SD usage of the EBP sensor? I've read several times that the EBS is somehow tied into the fueling control. But, those tube and sensor cleaning threads are usually in the SD section. I'm sure my tube is shot and would leak like crazy if I dug all the soot out of it. Seems to be debated quite a bit as to exactly what the EBS really does.
He is a ford mechanic who does work on the side. If the computer showed a fault, he probably just replaced it. He has worked on my truck and did a good job(cheap to)
my guess is he scanned for codes and saw the p0478 and replaced the ebp sensor, the oil change is what would have fixed the truck....
as for sd's the program is the same regarding ebp sensor use. their claims of 4 mpg increases from cleaning the tubes are in their head's. nowhere in the book does it state fuel controls, nor did ford's engineers claim this, and i even went so far as to speak with some of the gentlemen who worked for international that had a role designing the freakin motor and they all said the same thing. the ONLY ford engine that uses the ebp for performance is the new 6.4. the 7.3 and 6.0 do not use it for any performance reasons. on a 6.0 it is now a dead sensor unless the owner hasnt had a reflash since late 2004 or early 2005. and the 7.3 only uses it for ebp valve operation.
