I'm swapping an engine and transmission from a 83 f150 stepside into a 84 f 150 long bed. They both have 302's and I also thought that they both had C-6 transmissions...But when I pulled the shaft out of the 83 stepside I noticed that It was a lot smaller than the one from the 84. Comparing the length of the two shafts, the one out of the 84 was a lot longer and also the tail housing tip was larger. Is one of the trans a C-4? Can anyone tell me the difference of the two?
The c-6 will have a larger slip yoke than the c-4.Its a stronger heavy duty one too.You may have to get a drive shaft shortened/lenghtened for the swap.I swapped in a c-6 for a dismal 3-speed Od manual on a 1979 150 a few years ago. I had to take it in and get it done.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Dec-01 AT 00:18 AM (EST)]John, the C4 has 11 bolts and is a square pan. The C6 has 14 bolts and has a notch in one corner. Before you publicly display your ignorance again, do a little research. It took me less than two minutes to find this page:
