??? Is my float stuck ???
Hello guys ,I have the ole flathead v-8 with a chandler groves carb on it ,and I was driving it yesterday ,and all of a sudden it started to act like it was looseing power ,and I could smell gas ,there isnt any leaking ,but a strong smell,could the float be stuck,is there a easy way to check and see if it is??

Bill, the first thing I would do , is to pull a spark plug and check to see if it is wet with fuel. If so, I would suspect you r float is stuck. That carb shouldn't be too hard to pull off and bench test. You probably have a small piece of crud stuck in the needle seat . Once you pull the carb, just remove the pin holding the float,and take the needle out. I bet you will find something in there. Hope that helps. If you want to just check it without removing the carb top. Just set it on a table ( level,and find a way to pour fuel into the inlet side of the carb. Make sure the outlet side is draining into a can or something. Once the carb chamber is full of fuel the needle should close and no fuel should come out of the outlet side. If this does not happen, then you can pull the carb top. Hope this helps.
