OK Im open for any suggestions on my problem...Keep in mind i have tried every parts house, dealership, both ford an case IH , friends , etc. and my conclusion is there has to be a simple solution to this. I have a 7.3 diesel, banks turbo. 96 model F 350. my oil return for the turbo has blown the grommet. this grommet is apparently no longer available. how do i fix this dilemia??
Is this an o-ring or a gasket? Which end of the oil return is it?
Being a '96 model, is it a Powerstroke? If it is an IDI with a Banks kit on it, you may be able to contact them for replacement parts.
its a power stroke..factory set up, no its not the o ring..it is the rubber grommet that holds in the oil return tube in the valleypan, from the turbo.
Crazy as it sounds have you tried the hardware store? Not a sLowes or Home Creapo, but a REAL hardware store. There is a local chain in my area called McClendons that still carries a large selection of that kind of stuff.
Another possibility is if you have any REAL auto parts stores in your area - not Schmucks or AutoZoned - but a REAL honest to God auto PARTS store (if you have any left in your area. We have a small local chain called B&B that carries a decent selection of generic parts. Napa isn't too bad.
You should be able to order one from your Ford dealer. If not there, try an IH truck dealer.
As Cheaper Jeeper mentioned, you might try matching up a universal grommet to work.
if you just made one phone call to a dealer you probably got a slacker that didnt want to waste time on such a small sale , walk in to the counter and have them look it up ford still has them
There are two sets of two o-rings that seal the turbo oil supply and return. One set is between the turbo and pedestal and the other set is between the pedestal and block. It is possible that the exhaust backpressure actuator is leaking. It will have a rod coming out of the pedestal to a butterfly valve at the exhaust outlet of the turbo.
tim you are on the ball again, beat me to it!!! i agree, while his description doesnt quite match the ebpv it is still closer then a turbo drain since we dont have one........
Well Wonderful! ya'LL have some spendid Ideas, Not to be a smartypants or nothing but i came here for answers because I had EXHAUSTED all Other RESOURSES! Ford, INTRNATIONAL, the GOOD parts stores, I have even went to the extent to Goto a PLACE that specializes in nothing but Ford Discontinued parts. I am pulling my hair out here! a $5 part thats giving me such a hard time..So if i seem a lil snippy, its cause i have a beautiful truck that ford has made WORTHLESS cause i cant get parts!!
Look 3 posts up. I made those recommendations cause if you really have a 96 PSD you don't have a oil return line for your turbo with any kind of grommet. The only seals for the oil return (which is all part of the turbo pedestal) are o-rings that are very readily available. Do you have any pics of what is leaking? If not try searching webshots buy searching "powerstroke Turbo" and see if there is something that shows what you are talking about.
I found your other post in the other section. The part number you mention comes back as the crankcase vent tube. But since the part number starts with a f3 that means its for a 93 model vehicle. There wasn't a PSD in 93. Let me do some searching and see if I can find some pics to help sort this out.
Edit
Does your engine look like this? If so where (general area if not visible) is the item you are talking about?
yeah someone else questioned my year of truck, so i doubted an had to dig out the title its a 94 and its the grommet that is for the return oil on the turbo to cycle it back into the top of the motor . the ford part numer i have is F3TZ-6853-A if this helps anyone
Oh yeah this grommet i am looking for is about 2 inches in diameter...and the inner hole is about 1 1/2 inches..i have seen the part..know what it does..and it seats in the valley pan for the oil return line..
