Post 302 Identification Problems

I have a block I'd like to identify. The casting numbers are 7D17 in small letters above the larger numbers C5AE-6015E. I know from reading the posts in this forum and the first two digits the block was manufactured in 1965. What I'd really like to know is what does 7D17 mean and what type car or truck did the block come out of.

302 Identification Problems

Hmm, if memory serves me right it's actually a 289 and not a 302. The two blocks are identical except for the bore.

302 Identification Problems

the 7D17 means that it was cast in 1967 on April 17. although it is somewhat strange that the first 7 is there if the other casting number is C5 for 1965. Either way its still a 289. Both 289 and 302 have same 4" bore but the stroke is longer on the 302.
