I want to say THANKYOU! I went thru here, and a few other threads and changed the tires, 100,000 service, flowmaster, and other tweeks thruout a search on gas mileage thruout the threads, and am happy to announce this 4x4 2001 V8 went from 10 to 14 miles per gallon up to 13 around town and a big whopping (for me) 16 plus on the freeway. I even had 17 downhill from Reno.
Hi, new to me 2001 4X4 4.6 3.55 gear Expedition. On a 400 mile flat round trip between 60 and 65 MPH 17.2 MPG. No idea what had been serviced on the vehicle, other than it's really clean, has 60,000 miles.
For comparison, I traded my 2003 Explorer on this, on a good day on the same trip I might get 20 MPG, but with some local lights and stop and go in the little towns, often it might be 18/19. Not a huge difference with the Expedition.
For the size of the vehicle I am satisified, and maybe when needed new exhaust, service injectors and other items all of you have suggested, my MPG will go up. Again, stock, I get 17.2 on the highway, haven't measured city, but of course it's going to be low.
I know the wifes 97 expy 4.6 with 99,780 gets about 9 or 10 if i,m lucky. I keep telling her about the fast starts and mashing on it and also ckicking off the OD going down the highway, uhhhggg. Sorry for the rant. She,s a good old girl but she just don't listen.
