My 53 with a 302 engine and parts (thus said to show not orginal)Has restarting problem after its been running awhile,so the first starting ok,and maybe up to the 3rd ,but sometimes (after its hot?) it will just click, try again and maybe again before it starts.Could this be the soleniod on the starter or a battery thing? It can be a little unsettling.
I'd check the starter. When starter motor gets hot the winding need more current to flow, but to check solenoid, try jumping solenoid when problem happens. If it starts its solenoid. If doesn't start then starter motor. Let us know. Kurt G. Y-blocks rule.
Had a similar poblem years ago. Turned out, the alt. belt was not as tight as it could have been, and bat was not charging to its full potential. The sol was a little old and tired, but tightned up belt and it was fine. Just mad the difference
thanks for the help..the truck usally starts, but today it was iffe,My volt charging meter reads 14 volt and was just installed with the engine replacement so this leads me to think (a fools belief)the problem may lie within the stater, will check tomorrow, and than of course the 50 plus year old wiring doesn't help matters
thank you
