Will A Clogged Fuel Filter Throw A Code?

Suddenly today, my truck would not start strongly. It also has limited power/acceleration. If I nail the gas pedal, it really dogs out. No smoke. No noise. No check engine light. And no codes on my Actron reader that picks up pending codes.

The truck is properly maintained. I'm thinking (hoping) fuel filter?

If a fuel filter is starving the engine of fuel, wouldn't there be some kind of code?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

On a 2002 SD...No code will surface. Keep in mind...that '99-'03 (maybe '04) are really only OBD-1 compliant.

It probably wont throw a code for dirty fuel filter. My wifes sport trac was running funny and it didnt throw a code either. Changed the fuel filter and it ran fine. I started changing filters every two years now. The wonderful gas they sell (For $3.49 a gallon now) seems to be fairly dirty. Besides mine, I know of 8 different people that had to change fuel filters recently and not all of them were high milage vehicles.

No. Fuel pressure isn't a listed code, but o2 too lean could appear. The truck is 6 years old, I'd start with a vacuum leak test. Spray WD-40 or starting fluid around the hoses and manifolds while the engine is running, if it revs up you found a vacuum leak. IAC could also cause the bogging. Both should throw an o2 sensor code.

If you haven't replaced the fuel filter in a while, do it any ways. They should be replaced every 15k miles. You need to read the codes and find out what the computer says is wrong.

If the truck is driven with a plugged fuel filter for a long enough time the vehicle will set lean codes for bank 1 and bank 2 (I believe a P0171 and a P0174) because it will drop fuel pressure. I have seen it a few times at the dealership I used to work at.
