Fuel Filter

I have a 1994 Non-PS Turbo Diesel F250 K Engine code. I ordered a spin-on fuel filter from Rockauto and for the life of me I can't locate the filter. Is there another filter on the truck besides the fuel/water separator located in the engine bay? Also, there is a small port on the air filter housing--what is that for?

The filter is on the passenger side, top of the engine. There is of course the oil filter but that is kind of under the engine.

The small port on the intake is so you can put a vacuum gauge on and get a read for how much work the engine is doing to pull air in. It is part of a whole series of ports around the engine for various diagnostics. Near as I can tell though, it is one of the less useful ones (yeah, I can look at my air filter!).

So, the only fuel filter on the truck in the Fuel/Water separator in the engine bay?

On the 7.3, unless something aftermarket was added, that is the only fuel filter save for the in-tank screen/shower head. The 6.9 and 7.3 have different filters btw; the 6.9 has a separate water separator while the 7.3 has it as part of the filter (fuel heater was also put into the filter head instead of around the pump to filter housing).

You can replace the two piece OEM design (filter with water bowl screwed on the bottom) with a one piece filter filter that has a water drain. I'm guessing the filter you got from RockAuto is the one piece design?

If the filter has a provision for it, there may also be a spot to transfer the 'water in fuel' sensor from the bottom of the fuel bowl to the new filter. If so, the filter should have come with a new o-ring to use on the sensor. The water in fuel sensor isn't needed if you have a good source of fuel and drain some fuel from the filter to check for water every now and then. (I've never had a problem with water in my fuel, but others have been less lucky).

Rockauto claims that Fram Fuel Filter P1147G fits this truck. There is no port for draining water on the filter and the filter is too long. Do you have an alternative part number for the one piece design?

Wix 33617 has a drain and the port for the water in fuel sensor.
Napa 3617 is the same filter, just Napa branded.

There are others without the water in fuel sensor with a similar part number, just don't remember it off the top of my head.

^^^ Believe it's, respectively:

Wix 33417

Napa 3417

Should be enough for a Google search

Sherwin, I believe you are correct. There is also another version with a larger hole for the water in fuel sensor, but thats not useful to our trucks.

With any of those numbers, any good parts store could cross reference the filters to any other brand that makes a similar filter. However, I would avoid anything Fram as they tend be crappy (at least the Fram oil filters...).

if the fuel filter on the truck has the water in fuel sensor port, can I install a filter without a senor port?

Yup, you just leave the wire disconnected.
Just make sure to drain a little fuel out to check for water every now and then.
