Mind you, sometime it takes a while for my personal lights to come on - which brings up my Title subject. My truck is now over 2 years old, its pretty close to top of the line, being an FX4 Lariat. A couple of days ago I opened my door and noticed that there was no courtesy light coming on under the armrest even though there was a nice 2"x4" red lens so I figured it's burned out along with the passenger side - the OEM lights don't last. A few minutes ago, I popped the lens - and what did I see - NADA - no burned out bulb, no socket, only a receptacle that a socket would fit. Now, my first question - is this "standard" for this model and vintage F350 - or am I alone here with another Ford screwup? Next, Is there a harness in place (so I don't have to take the door panel off more then once)? I'm 'assuming' I can buy a socket/harness at my friendly() dealer but if someone else either has a set to sell or at least the part numbers, that would be appreciated.
Starting in 04 or 05 Ford started leaving off several items that used to be standard equiptment.
Door lights
Underhood blanket
Glovebox light
Plastic inner fenders in the bed wheelwells
Thanks Greg.
After I posted this thread - I tried the search function again and this time it worked and brought up several posts/threads.
From what I can figure out - it almost has to do with the phase of the moon and whether or not someone decided they wanted to work the day the truck was built. Some have the lights thru '06 or so - and others don't. If I can harass my Ford dealer hard enough, I'll try to find out what harness I need and post here. If not - I'll either figure out sonething - or forget about it.
I believe the lights harness was installed on all 99-04 Super Duties, but they only put a bulb in on the Lariat, Harley, and King Ranch Trucks. (I just put bulbs in on my 99 XLT and they worked fine).
I don't believe any of the trucks from 05-up come with the socket installed. Many people on here have bought and installed the socket though. I'm pretty sure it is a standard socket that can be found at most car part stores, but you will have to wire it into your dome light circuit yourself. It could be that the people you found with 05-up trucks either installed the lights themselves, or a previous owner did so.
Around the same time Ford also stopped putting liners in the rear wheel wells, lights in the glovebox, and a heat shield on the hood. All likely for cost savings.

Someone at Ford probably got a Cost Improvement bonus....or at least an 'atta boy. That, plus crap Rancho "branded" shocks, lousy brake rotors and pads and lop sided and shaky Continental tires. Sounds like I can make a few cheap improvements (as well as a few expensive as well - shocks were already replaced)
Job 2 '04 trucks lost those items. It was a cost saving move, that had a fancy name I can't remember.
I don't know if my XLT came with them factory, but it did have them when I bought it. I've also seen other XLT's with them, it's how I knew my '04 didn't have them.
I have searched the forums high and low, but I can't seem to find an answer for this:
Does anyone have the part numbers for the appropriate (half red / half clear) courtesy light lenses, which I believe would need to be from 2002 to early 2004 model year? These SHOULD fit the 2005-2007 door panels, right?
In my 03 the passenger side doesnt work and i have never taken it apart to check it out. I should though, I didnt know they didnt install some bulbs in them either.
