Count the number of teeth on the driven gear, divide by the number of teeth on the drive gear. Like if your crown or ring gear has 39 teeth and your pinion gear has 13 teeth your ratio is 3:1. In other words the pinion has to make 3 revolutions before your wheel make 1.
You can't just count one gear to determine if you have a higher ratio than another gear. GM for example has two ring gears that have 41 teeth but the pinion that matches to one has 11 teeth while the other has 12. They amount to two different ratios. one being 3.42:1 while the other is 3.73:1
