I just bought a new jasper tranny and put it all in my truck and the fluid is where is should be well a lil over full. Anyway its an E4od and with the gear selector in od on the column, it works fine but as soon as i hit bout 34ish, it seems like it it looses all power cus than acceleration is slow with the engine racing. On the other hand with the gear selector in D on the column i have no problems at all.
Heres what i found out, if i leave it in D until i hit bout 50 than shift it into OD it seems to race a lil than calms down n appears to run fine in OD than. So im thinkin its the transision from 3rd gear to 4th that seems to be slipping but y? Its a brand new remanufactured tranny from Jasper engines and transmission.
Could it have anything to do with the t.v. pressure on the side of the tranny? cus i didnt check it cus i dont have the tools for it. Or, could it be that the tranny just needs to be broken in yet? idk but i dont wanna be runnin round everywhere in 3rd gear when i kan be in overdrive so save on gas.
p.s. t.v is throttle valve, i think yall know that but just wanted to clarify, thanks again. this forum has been very helpful to me on all my problems,
There is no throttle valve on an E4OD. There also is an OD position on the gearshift, but no D position. I'm pretty lost as to what you're talking about.
There is no break in time for an automatic. They work right out of the box.
I figured it out. It was the kickdown cable on top of the motor, it just came off. I put it back on and havnt had any trouble with it since, except for the stale gas that has sat all winter but after puttin in a tank of good gas and runnin it allday yesterday, it seems to have gotten rid of the stale gas too.
But I will answer your questions anyway just so that someone else can read this for a reference if they have somethin similiar.
On the side of my tranny i ordered for my 1986 f-150 which has a 302 and a 4 speed tranny, it had a sticker that said summin bout checkin the t.v. pressure by hookin up a psi gauge to the hole in the side of the tranny n than told me what it should read at idle n all that other stuff n how to adjust it.
As for the converter lockin up too early, it wouldnt lock up before i found out it was the kickdown cable. It just stayd in 3rd tryin to lock.
I havnt noticed any slipping which there shouldnt be cus the whole thing has been remanufactured by Jasper.
Break in time, im not sure if there is one cus I never got a paper tellin me anythin bout it but I am goin to take it easy for the first 1000 just to be safe.
As for the gear selector it reads....P R N OD D L (or 1 i cant quite tell)
Now that you gave some truck info this makes sense. It's an AOD transmission, not an E4OD. The first E4OD was in 1988, and it wasn't in the F150 for a couple more years.
You need to set the TV pressure with a spacer and a pressure gauge. The trans can turn into a pile of useless junk if TV pressure isn't set right.
Thats right it is an aod, I dont know y i keep thinkin its an e4od. anyway, im thinkin the pressure should be set right cus they dynoed the tranny before they shipped it to me to make sure the shift points n everything where set right. i might take it to the shop n have them check and adjust if needed. i might even have them put on the tranny cooler for me to as a series while they got it there too.
So far I havn't had a problem with the tranny so I'm guessing the TV is set right. I have been driving it for 3 days now. I called the garage yesterday n asked them bout adjusting the TV and they told me that as long as it runs fine and there is no shifting problems or nothin, that I shouldn't worry bout it.
