Check your rear spring !!!!!

I went to install my lift today and noticed both rear leaf spring were broken in half... The main leaf is the one that broke on both sides.. This is not the first truck I've seen this one.. I've seen it on trucks that don't even hardly see a gravel or dirt road.. This may be a ford weak spring issue, but I've seen it on 4 trucks now... My own (that gets used like a truck) and 3 others that get used very lightly in comparison !!

When the main leaf breaks.. you have nothing that really holds that rear axle into your truck... A dangerous situation in my opinion !! I never even noticed it until I went to pull them out...

So.. the lift didn't get installed.. instead I went on a spring hunt

Found 2 new springs and will be installing the lift tomorrow !

which spring in the pack are you referring to? in reference from top to bottom of the pack. Bottom being the spring that sits on the block. I know the bottom spring has cracked on several trucks, mine being one of them.

Yeah, makes sense, it would be the top spring in my description. The spring with the eyelets for the shackles.

Ya.. you got it Mike !! Thats the one !! I think this is a common thing and would advise everyone to keep an eye on it.. maybe inspect them everytime you rotate your tires or something... My truck is wondering all over the road and I thought I had a problem up in the front end,.. didn't think it was in the rear ?? This would make it dog track all over in my opinion !!

Did it make any weird sounds or vibrations when you made tight turns, putting pressure on the suspension?

Edit: Do you have or can you get pictures of the breaks? This would help us know what to look for.

Ill have to look at mine tomorrow. My driver side spring is sitting lower than the pass side. I just figured it was getting time for new springs on the rear, replaced the fronts last fall.

You've already replace your fronts. How many miles do you have? Did you replace the whole shabang? Not trying to hi-jack....

I'll take some pics tomorrow and will post them at the end of the day if I can ..

I haven't noticed any weird vibs... I did notice the leafs clanking together yesterday on a rough section of road.. now that I look back on it.. but I thought it was my sway bar bushings back there because I knew they were hooped !! I had to buy a whole new sway bar set up for the rear because the bolt oblonged the hole in the bar itself,.. I was going to weld it up and fill the hole back to normal size but I found another complete bar with drop links for $120... didn't think it was worth the time screwin around with !

I have seen a lot of SD rear spring break but never the main leaf. Its always been one or two of the lower leaves.
