This afternoon my neighbor (chevy guy) noticed that my freeze plug (cam location) in the back of the block is installed convex side out. He told me that it looks as if the machine shop installed it incorrectly. I was unsure and would like to ask the experts in this forum. Your advice and guidance is much appreciated.
As the old saying goes? If it's not broke? Don't fix it.
Or put more teccy. Provided it's fully seated, it should be fine. Not sure how or why a shop would put it in "backwards" per say. However the seal is still made, but that must have been a bearcat to install LOL. Normally it's a light coating of sealant---use a large socket and tap it in place until just seated below the surface. Doing it the other way? Unusual...but it should seal just the same.
Forum members, Thank you for the quick feedback. I am glad to hear that the freeze plug is installed correctly and the rationale relates to endplay. My fear was that I would have to remove the plug and reinstall it. Whew!!
