Rough Idling!! PLEASE READ!!!

I am a proud owner of a 2000 F-150 XLT 4x4 Off-Road. I have had a 1998 F-150XL and I loved it! I had noticed a major issue with rough idle and when I came to the board, I noticed that a lot of folks were complaining about it to. So off to the Ford dealership went I and as per usual, I was told, everything checks out fine. A couple of days past, it got worse, so little ol me goes back to the Ford dealership fuming mad and begging the Service Manager to hear me out! He did, I told him that this is NOT normal and he agreed. It went into the shop and two hours later I got a call at home. Would'nt you know it! There's a recall with regards to this! Amazing! They admit fault after two frustrating trips to the dealership. I am posting the recall number here so all you with the 5.4L V8 have a reference number to go in with. Details on the recall have not been posted as of yet, but they did provide a number to me. I hope this solves your problems, it did mine. Rough idle is gone, more power on the pedal, smoother shifts etc....Feels like a brand new truck!!!! Good luck all!!

Recall Number : ooS29 <---- Letters OR 00S29 <---- Numbers

You are SO fortunate. I faxed this information to one of the Ford dealers who worked on my car and THEY COULD NOT HAVE CARED LESS! Their motto? No check engine light? HEY, YOU GOT NO PROBLEM!
How on earth did you get them to listen to you? I've been ranting, raving, kicking, screaming and all I get is "characteristic of the vehicle" or "normal vehicle condition".
I have a 2000 F-150 4x4 Sport 5.4 (almost like yours) and I have the worst episodic rough idle. I've brought it into service drives literally shuddering & vibrating and they acknowledge it but if there ain't no error codes, SORRY BOSS!
Who & where is your servicing dealer? Maybe if I could talk to whoever took care of your concern, maybe I can get them to talk to the numbskulls I've been dealing with. By the way, were you getting a check engine light during the concern?
It's a bad sign of the times. Machines tell them what to fix and if the machine has nothing to tell them, they won't fix
nothin'. I blame the manufacturers for that. They don't want to expend warranty hours chasing ghosts in the machine.

Congrats! I hope your concern is finally resolved.

Been there, done that. I'm escalating to talk to a supervisor after 6 or 7 attempts with the scripted customer assistance reps.

Thanks.

Rough Idling!! PLEASE READ!!!

Folks, All of the "Customer Service Reps" that I deal with are full commission sales people. That means that if the dealer doesn't make money on a repair, they don't make money. So warranty items and the like are very low on their priority lists.

I have developed a contact with the Service Manager and the parts guy to help get this type of problem delt with.

Good luck,

Rough Idling!! PLEASE READ!!!

I tried to look up the Recall Notice 00s29 in both the recall and TSB databases, with no luck (tried ooS29, 00S29, 00529, etc).
Has anyone been able to find it? The closest thing I could find (by topic) in the TSB database was:
Service Bulletin Number: BC0696961023
Bulletin Sequence Number: 57
Date of Bulletin: 9610
NHTSA Item Number: SB050368
Make: FORD TRUCK
Model: F150
Year: 1997
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:OTHER PART
Summary: CONCERNS OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (MIL) W/ CODES P0300 THRU P0308 & ENG RUNES ROUGH/MISSES. *TT

Any ideas on where I can get more information?

Rough Idling!! PLEASE READ!!!

I have good news and bad news for those of you with a 5.4 rough idle. The bad news is you will not get it fixed ford will continue to tell you it is a normal charactoristic. Those of you that have it know that this is bull. I bought my 1999 new and it did it from day one. I fought with ford for 2 1/2 years with this problem. I finally filed a case with the Dispute Settlement Board. This is all explained in your owners manual. Well after two hearing with this board they asked if they could have a independant firm look at my truck. Guess what? They agreed that this rough idle was not normal.I insisted that if this could not be fixed that ford buy back my truck. The DSB decided to provide me the option of ford replace my truck or refund the purchase price. I took the buy back.I recieved 100% of the purchase price tax, title and accesories. If you want more info on this check out www.F-150 online message board, when you get their go into engines category then look for rough idle/engine miss posted by 36racin. There are others that have won their case and a lot of other flustrated people.
Good luck, this is the only way you will resolve this problem.

Let me tell you guys, I had the same rough idle, plus hessitation under load, and it was the IAC valve(the one the controls the idle speed) that was sticking. They replace it and now my 2000 truck works fine. PS: I also didn't have a Check Engine Light On.

Rough Idling!! PLEASE READ!!!

I have spent many hours reading about my rough idle condition as well. My condition started simultanous with extremely poor fuel economy. Hiway driving was making 18.5 MPG and overnight with a rough idle my hiway economy went to 14 MPG. I have taken it to 3 different dealers and same story. Everything checks out fine and NO check engine light. The condition is unpredictable and when I have taken it to a dealer it does not due it to the extreme that it can.

My concern is that I bought the truck used privately with 20K and transfered his extended warranty which covers to 72K. What do you think I am going to be told if I take this to the DSB? Also it has a "dead spot" in the throttle taking off from a stop light about 1 / month or every 3K.

Mike
