My 94 f150 is pretty rich in miles but before i got it my dad put in a new engine he bought from the dealership, it runs very strong so i dont want to get rid of it. But its got a few problems, one is the dash on the passenger side is loose or broken. When i drive through any harsh road it shakes up and down kinda violently. I was wondering if theirs anything i can do to fix it, is their a specific part that might be broken that i can replace? Any help is appreciated!!
Ford has a repair kit for this problem. It was about $15 when I bought it a few years back.
Some folks fabricate thier own repair with epoxy and screen or similar methods.
Those brackets may be hard to find . Get a dremmel and a 3" or 4" L bracket at hardware. And make it fit bolt in . Several people on here have done it.
ive looked at that before but i havent seen the bracket that could be broken. is it far above the kick panel beside the dash or were exactly? Thanks for the responses i guess im not the only one with the problem.
This is such a common problem that it should have been a recall if you ask me. I paid 20 bucks for it a few years ago. I can't believe that guy on ebay wants 50 bucks or it. Thats rediculous. The mount is located on the black part of the side inner dashboard. It is behind where the kick panel curves up. The reason it breaks is because it is plastic. To repair it, you have to take all the bolts on the dash loose. You don't have to remove them on the driver side. Then you need to gently pull the dash back to get to the mount. As previously stated use a dremel to smooth down where the tab broke off. If you can't get the repair kit, you can just use a L bracket and bend it some until it lines up.
ok i have the kick panel removed, i also removed the glove box to allow me too see better. I see a part that looks like something broke off. It is immediately behind the colored dash part. I guess what would be right next to the air vent. If i use an "L" bracket do i connect it to the metal panel right next to it or what???? Thanks for the help and patience!!!
I'll try to get a picture for you later tonight. The bolt with the other end of the plastic tab should be visible at the lower right corner of the dash where the kick panel starts to curve up to the A pillar.
thanks alot man, i really appreciate it....this problem has been going on for some time but i just didn't have the time really get in their and fix it. It just got really annoying lately since i disconnected my system and i can hear the dash moving instead.
Thats right, the broken mount was originally molded as part of the inner dashboard. You just need to drill 2 or 3 small holes for the "fix" kit from Ford. It comes with pop rivets. If you use bolts it won't clear when you push the dash back into position and if you use sheet metal screws I would be afraid they would strip out the plastic and then the dash would be loose again.
Well i guess everything points to needing the fix kit from ford. THeirs a ford dealership down the street from a park i go to so i might just go ask and see if they still carry it. I think that would save me a huge headache if they do have it.
Would anyone happen to know or be able to get the part number for the dash repair bracket? I went down to the dealership and the guy had no idea what i was talking about. He tried to sell me some other bracket for 79.99, thats when i realised it was the wrong part.
