I bought an '89 F150, 5.0L, with an overdrive transmission (or so it says on the shift selector). There is no owners manual, but the sticker on the door says Transmission Type "T". Is this the AOD?
Also, the guy at the parts store says his computer shows this transmission to use ATF+4! I always thought this was a Chrysler fluid, and told him that I thought Mercron was the only thing Ford has used for many years now (I know my '90 w/ E4OD takes Mercron). Is Mercron the prescribed fluid?
Based on my my Hanes Repair Manual for 1980 thru 1996. It says the transmissions (C4, C6 and AOD) use Mercon. I have a 93 F150 and it has an AOD Type "T" and it is a Metric. You will know this as the tranny pan will say Metric right on it. I just changed it a few months back.
