hello to all, have a 02 350 psd and im on my third alt. with 146k miles. first one went at 136k? and replaced and that one was junk only putting out about 12.5v then bought this one which was fine til the last few weeks. most of the time it works fine at 14.2v but sometimes it jumps around, it will sit at 12v for a few minutes then 13v or wherever for a few then back to 14v. its worse at start up and idleing for a few minutes. Just wondering if this one is bad now too or what?! got it and auto value. and if it is bad, where should i get one and where would be the cheapest? i paid $212 for the last one but dont have the money for another one. any help would be great, thanks!

Well if you spent that much money on the last one, I would hope that it had some sort of warrenty. Where did you get the last one at? I got a cheap one from Advance Auto and it would jump around like that. Went and returned it for the more expensive one and that one works great now.
Just thought of the chaffing wire problem others have had on the wires of the 2 pin connector on top of alt. One person had to use a magnifying glass to see that insulation had been worn through. Jiggle the wires while watching the alt output voltage.
If after you get it bench tested. And it shows the voltage regulator to be shot,or something else maybe. But thats what it sounds like.I would order a 200 amp alt from these guys.Just got a high torque starter from them.Very pleased with the quick service. And so far the product is superb.http://stores.ebay.com/GRAND-ALTERNATORS-AND-STARTERS.I didnt buy through e-bay.I called them and did it over the phone.Doesnt matter though, wich ever your comfortable with.
thanks for the help and no i did not get a warranty! My dad picked it up i was working at the time. got both at auto value. this last one was free cuz a brought in the second one the same day after i installed it,i tested it. i dont really need a high output alt. though. i just run subwoofers and my truck is decked out in amber and red lights so stock one should be fine?

Bruce,
That link isn't working. Seems like since the upgrade some links have been iffy. Have had trouble posting links myself. Try to edit in a space or two after that link.
Edit: Worked when i did a copy and paste and back spaced through the I and Period. The I and Period became part of the link.
Sorry about that. The link that Robin gave you is the same e-bay store.Grand Rebuilders.I had a good experience with them as I said.I like to talk to a person to make sure I'm getting the rite part.
powerstroke02, if you still have the receipt for the alternator, you should be able to get it warranteed. Might have to come up with a date and mileage when installed. It would be worth a try.
