got a question that maybe one of ya's can help me with . i seen on a crown vic the other day , a set of tires with a whitewall that couldnt have been much more than a 1/4 inch wide . looked almost like a thick pinstripe and reminded me of a white version of a redline to some degree . any of you know of a manufacturer / supplier that has these ? i can't find a dain thing around here , and have not yet been able to track the owner down to find out where they got em { it's in one of the rural communities i deliver mail to } . they were cool looking and a great change of pace from the ww 's we all seem to be facinated with . i think i want a set for the 53 , as i think they'd look good on my steel rims painted body colour , with the trim rings and 57 passenger car hubcaps i got .
There is a very reputable dealer in Long Beach California that I bought a 6.00x15 bias ply from. I called them monday and had the tire by tuesday. They were recommended to me by the guys at C&G Ford Parts.
thanks for the link there sandidande but yikes the prices !!!! i geuss it's cause im a tight a-- but lord i cant see given' acouple hundred a peice for tires on my driver !!! i see though he had a .09 wide white wall thats gotta be the tire i seen . no pics though . i'd say seeing as it's a newer { late 90's early 00's } vic and an older gent he got 'em 'round here locally and they are modern radials so i'm assuming they cant be real pricey .
They sell on eBay and are just west of Chicago. Their prices see decent. I don't know if they will have the tires you're looking for but they're worth a try. I have never bought from them but have emailed a few eBay buyers that have bought tires from them and they seemed to be happy with them.
BTW, congrats on getting your truck in Vintage Truck.
The narrow WW is a common feature on 225/60r16, which are popular on crown vics, cadillacs, and other large luxury cars. Many name brand tire manufacturers build the narrow WW in just that size, and offer the rest of their particular line in BW. For instance, I stock Cooper's CS4 touring line, their premium line, and the only size available with that WW is the 225/60r16.
used to have a caddi @ work the owner wheeled as a demo. it had the 1/4 whitewalls, i think they were michelin but the model name fer sure was symmetry

YIKES! I'm with ya on the price thing. Although after 3 years of resto, my money brain cells are all gone (and so's all my money). My tire was only $65 for the 6.00x15. But the good news is, ya know now that somebody out there is makin' em. And if you can find out who that is and get a regular tire shop to order them (instead of a restoration specialty shop) the price may be a little more reasonable.
ALSO, I used to work with a kid who had a machine that was designed to cut and peel white walls into tires - just the cap layer of rubber 1/32 or something. Apparently that was fairly common in the 50s and 60s. The ones he did had the white under the top black layer (beats me if they still do that) it didn't hurt the tire and it might be an alternative for you.
